Charlotte Checkers

The Charlotte Checkers play in the American Hockey League (AHL) and are the primary minor-league affiliate of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. Each season, several prospects hone their skills in Charlotte before moving on to the big leagues. In their first two seasons of play in the AHL, the Checkers had 15 players who also spent time in the NHL with the Hurricanes for a total of 398 games.

Did you know? Charlotte is known as the birthplace of hockey in the South and has had hockey teams dating back to 1955 when the Baltimore Clippers moved to the Queen City following a fire in their arena.
